Course Title: BTEC First Diploma in Public Services

Duration: One Year
Course Description: This is a full time course which is designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed by people who want to work in the armed services, police force, fire service or ambulance service. Students will also develop a broad range of general skills including communicating with others, working in a team, problem solving and presentation skills. In addition, each week students will have one day’s work experience, possibly in an area of the industry. The course also allows students to achieve the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness. Re-sits on GCSE Maths and English are available if needed.

What qualifications do you need? You will be expected to have a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades D-G You must have a willingness to learn and apply yourself to the course and the personal qualities to be able to work with people
What does the course consist of? There are three core units: Unit 1: Uniformed Public Services Employment Unit 2: Public Service Skills Unit 3: Uniformed Public Service Fitness
There are three selected units taken from the following: Unit 4: Citizenship, the Individual and Society Unit 5: Public Service Workplace Welfare Unit 6: Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Uniformed Public Services Unit 7: The Value of Sport and Recreation in the Public Services Unit 8: Land Navigation by Map and Compass Unit 9: Law and its Impact on the Individual Unit 10: Crime and its Effects on Society Unit 11: Community and Cultural Awareness Unit 12: Driving and its Relationship to the Public Services Unit 13: Expedition Skills
Student Progression BTEC First Diplomas and Certificates offer direct progression on to advanced level courses. On completion of an advanced level course, students can progress to a Degree Programme. A BTEC First also prepares students for employments in their chosen career. |
